چکیده

CEREMONY IN HONOUR OF DR. MARC DAX AND DR. GUSTAVE DAX ON 12 June 1966, there took place in the little township of Sommi6res near Montpellier, an interesting ceremony in honour of Dr. Marc Dax (1770-1837) and his son Dr. Gustave Dax (1815-1893). The former was the first to draw attention, in 1836, to the greater importance of the left cerebral hemisphere as regards the faculty of language. A considerable congregation of notables, medical and otherwise, assembled under the auspices of the Maire of Sommieres, Dr. R. Andre. Professor Alajouanine of Paris unveiled a plaque over the house where the younger Dr. Dax was born, while Dr. Macdonald Critchley in his capacity as President of the World Federation of Neurology, unveiled a tablet in the market square now renamed 'Le Place des deux Docteurs Dax'. Among the many well-known persons in attendance were Professor Euzi&re, Honorary Dean, and Professor Benezech, Dean, of the Faculty of Medicine of Montpellier; Professor Passouant of Montpellier who instigated and organized the ceremony; Dr. Fergus Ferguson (Manchester); Professor Romieu, President of the Medical Historical Society of Montpellier; and Professor F. Dax-1 and steroid receptor RNA activator (SRA) function as transcriptional coactivators for steroidogenic factor 1 in steroidogenesis.

The nuclear receptor steroidogenic factor 1 (SF-1) is essential for adrenal development and steroidogenesis. The atypical orphan nuclear receptor Dax-1 binds to SF-1 and represses SF-1 target genes. Paradoxically, however, loss-of-function mutations of Dax-1 also cause adrenal hypoplasia, suggesting that Dax-1 may function as an SF-1 coactivator under some circumstances. Indeed, we found that D...

DAX-1 and DAX-1A expression in human testicular tissues with primary spermatogenic failure.

DAX-1 [dosage-sensitive sex reversal-adrenal hypoplasia congenital (AHC) critical region on the X chromosome gene 1; NR0B1] is an orphan nuclear receptor that acts as a transcriptional repressor in adrenal/gonadal development, steroidogenesis and probably spermatogenesis. An alternatively spliced form called DAX-1A (NR0B1A) has been described in several tissues including the testis, and in vitr...

Dax-1, a member of the nuclear hormone receptor superfamily of transcription factors, is known to be involved in gonadal development in mammals. To date, Dax-1 has only been isolated in reptiles, birds and mammals. The expression of Dax-1 is down-regulated in the developing testis, but persists in the ovary of mice (Swain et al., Nat. Genet. 12 (1996) 404) and chicken (Smith et al., J. Mol. End...
